Everybody Get Happy - Lyrics, Notes, & Credits
Those Noisy Whistling Newcomers
They moved in down the street
4 people, 2 dogs and 8 feet
They’ve been driving me nuts all summer
Those Noisy Whistling Newcomers
They mow the yard to the tune
"There Is No Grass On The Moon"
Their music even drowns out the plumber
Those Noisy Whistling Newcomers
Newcomers, Newcomers
Noisy when they whistle
And when they whistle
It makes my dog Max bristle
Newcomers Newcomers
Noisy when they whistle
Sounds like a supersonic missile
This is what they whistle
Early one evening I'm napping
On the backporch my toes are tapping
There like a vision, like a vision glistening
All the Newcomers are whistling
Newcomers, Newcomers
Noisy when they whistle
And when they whistle
It makes my dog Max bristle
Newcomers Newcomers
Noisy when they whistle
Sounds like a supersonic missile
This is what they whistle

This is one of the many songs Steven Courtney and I have written together. We wrote this one via email, each finishing the next line and sending it back in hopes of cracking each other up. Steve wrote the music and made the first demo. His is more country, mine more whacky. I played my brown ovation soprano ukulele on this one.
GET HAPPY
Everybody Get Happy
Everybody have fun
The sun is shining bright on everything
Everybody clap your hands
Everybody do a dance
C’mon Get Happy
Everybody Get Happy
Everybody have fun
The sun is shining bright on everything
Everybody clap your hands
Everybody do a dance
C’mon Get Happy
What’s the use in being happy
Some folks are happier being sad
So if your smile has headed south for awhile
You might just want to try being glad
Happy are the poor in spirit
Happy are the rich in fun
They don’t let those old clouds of life
Keep them from shining like the sun
Everybody Get Happy
Everybody have fun
The sun is shining bright on everything
Everybody clap your hands
Everybody do a dance
C’mon Get Happy
Everybody Get Happy
Everybody have fun
The sun is shining bright on everything
Everybody clap your hands
Everybody do a dance
Everybody clap your hands
Everybody do a dance
Everybody clap your hands
Everybody do a dance
C’mon Get Happy
Happy

My son-in-law Matt wrote the chorus of this song for a camp he was leading worship at. I loved it so much, I asked him if I could add a verse and record a rendition. Matt sang along in the last chorus, too. My wife Sharon, my daughter Keilah, and my son Zachery add the joy and laughter. I played my brown ovation ukulele on this song. I played it through a guitar effects box to get some of the weirder keyboardy type songs. Atleast the ones I didn’t play on a genuine Casio sk-1.
HAND MOTION ALERT! Clap four times after “Everybody Clap Your Hands!” and dance like a velociraptor after “Everybody do a dance!”.

Steven Courtney and I wrote this via email. This is the third version of this song. The first good one. :>) I played my ovation tenor ukulele on this song. It’s in the right channel and the acoustic guitar is in the left channel.
IT’S MY BIRTHDAY
It's my...
birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
It's my birthday
it's my birthday
So bring on the clowns, bake up the cake,
Pin the donkey on the tale, there's plans to make
Blow up balloons, hang the decorations
Invite the whole family this is for the generations
Pile on the gifts, Ice cream too,
I even bought some special party favors for you.
Do a little dance, make a lot of noise, fill your heart with birthday JOY!
It's my...
birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
It's my birthday
it's my birthday
So here come the aunts and uncles too
The cousins bring a funny gag gift or two
Grandmas here with a card and cash
Grandpas sleeping for the camera flash
Rappers are flying, bows are too, smiles and hugs are just a clue
That we love parties and we love friends,
Birthday love just never ends
It's my...
birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
It's my birthday
it's my birthday
Birthdays come and birthdays go
There’s a lot of people that we know
Who are sad, so don’t be late
Birthdays are a chance to celebrate them…
It's my...
birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
Birthday, it's my birthday
It's my birthday
it's my birthday
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you

My friend Brian Crow has a birthday tradition of saying, “It’s my birthday! It’s my birthday! It’s my birthday!” to EVERYONE he meets on his birthday. Since he has his birthday at the Creation NorthWest festival, that’s a lot of “It’s My Birthdays” in a day. Brian, this is for you. I played my Martin backpacker uke on this one.

Phredd – ukulele, banjo ukulele, cajon, bass, percussion, vocals, melodica
Zachery – vocals
Steven Courtney and I wrote some songs for his ‘Americana’ period. This was the second foray into internet songwriting. The first one gave us about 40 songs. We didn’t write as many the second time, but we still had a fun and productive time. This song was one of the products. I played the ‘Banjolele’ or banjo ukulele that Steve gave me as a gift a couple Christmas’ ago on the intro and ending. I played a Lanikai Tenor Uke for the rest. The melodica is an instrument that sounds like a harmonica, looks like a keyboard, but you blow into it like a clarinet. It has a cool sound so I used it as the instrumental solo after the first verse.
BRUSH BRUSH SMILE
Cmon and Brush, Brush, Smile
I said, Brush, Brush, Smile
You gotta brush at an angle along the outer gum, yeah
Gently wiggle wiggle wiggle back and forth, yeah
You gotta brush the inside surface of each tooth, yeah
Gently wiggle wiggle wiggle back and forth, yeah
Cmon and Brush, Brush, Smile
I said, Brush, Brush, Smile
You gotta brush the chewing surface of each tooth, yeah
Gently wiggle wiggle wiggle back and forth, yeah
You gotta brush behind the front teeth (top and bottom)
Use the tip of the brush now (top and bottom)
Gently wiggle wiggle wiggle on the top and bottom
And don’t forget to brush your tongue
When you Brush Brush, Smile
C’mon and Brush Brush, Smile
Everybody Brush, Brush, Smile (and wiggle wiggle wiggle)
Brush, Brush, Smile (and wiggle wiggle wiggle)
Smile (and wiggle wiggle wiggle) 3x yeah
(brush at an angle along the outer gum, yeah
brush the inside surface of each tooth, now
brush the chewing surface back and forth now
behind the teeth top and bottom
gently wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle)

Phredd – electic guitar, bass, drums, loops, drum machines, percussion, vocals, keyboards
Keilah – vocals
Zachery – vocals
Steven Courtney wrote this song and I wanted to record it from the moment I heard it. Usually when we both record a song, I try to make mine different. In this case, I tried to make mine sound exactly like his, except for the slowed down intro of the guitar hook. No ukuleles were used in this recording.
HAND MOTION ALERT!!! Pretend to brush your teeth when saying “Brush, Brush.” Then a big smile when you sing “Smile.” Then wiggle all your wigglies out during “wiggle, wiggle, wiggle.”
Special Note: The song is about how long you are supposed to brush your teeth. So put it on, and brush away.
ORANGUTAN
Orangutan
Hoot and sang
Loved to bang on his drums
Eat and play
Sleep all day
Swing Swang Swung
Orangutan
Silly Orangutan
Orangutan, who rang? (ring, hello)
Orangutan
Hoot and sang
Loved to bang on his drums
Eat and play
Sleep all day
Swing Swang Swung
Orangutan
Silly Orangutan
Orangutan, who rang? (ring, hello)
Orangutan, silly Orangutan
Orangutan, silly Orangutan

Phredd – ukulele, bass, drums, loops, drum machines, percussion, vocals, funny orangutan voice
This was a fun song to record. I used the Lanikai tenor ukulele on this recording. It’s a good day when you can use the word Orangutan in a song.
HAND MOTION ALERT! Orangutans are one of the few animals (along with some humans) who can pat their head and rub their tummies at the same time. So when the little Orangutan says “Oo Oo” – pat your head and rub your tummy at the same time. Try to not mix it up.
IQ WRECKING MACHINE
I went to the hippocampus
To see what I could see
There weren’t no hippos learning
Anything of interest to me
There were hippos reading papers
And hippos taking naps
The hippodrome was filled with
Some helmet hippo cats
Now that’s just crazy
That’s absurd
Call it crazy
Yeah, that’s the word
It’s a bird-brained, hair-brained, brain dead, brain freeze, out of sight, out of mind, mind-bending mental case, breakdown, breakthrough IQ Wrecking Machine
I checked out the frontal lobes
Of my rabbit’s ears
But that there big-brained bunny
Couldn’t get his thoughts in gear
That mighty hasenpfeffer
Could not read or write
Do you think a frontal lobotomy
Would make our bunny bright
Now that’s just crazy
That’s absurd
Call it crazy
Yeah, that’s the word
It’s a bird-brained, hair-brained, brain dead, brain freeze, out of sight, out of mind, mind-bending mental case, breakdown, breakthrough IQ Wrecking Machine
Why do I forget things
What is the cause
Can you defrag my harddrive
Please get this play off pause
Off pause…
Little Sara Bellum
Couldn’t get to work
She couldn’t make the connection
Between payroll and a perk
When Miss Bellum got fired
She threw the book at them
She didn’t hit them in the brain
But she got the whole brain stem
Now that’s just crazy
That’s absurd
Call it crazy
Yeah, that’s the word
Yeah that’s just crazy
That’s absurd
Call it crazy
Yeah, that’s the word
It’s a bird-brained, hair-brained, brain dead, brain freeze, out of sight, out of mind, mind-bending mental case, breakdown, breakthrough IQ Wrecking Machine

My son Ethan was studying parts of the brain for a class during his Freshman year at college. He and my daughter-in-law Caitlyn were studying together and Caitlyn was giving him pointers on how to remember the vocabulary and the different parts of the brain. I thought it was funny that some of the words like Hippocampus and Cerebellum could be changed around to paint quite a different picture than what they were intended.
No ukuleles were used in this recording, but I did use a guitar tuned like a ukulele for the mandolin-like sound at the end. The cajon is a percussion instrument that is like a wooden box with springs inside. You sit on top of it, and depending on where and how you hit it, it sounds like a bass, snare or tom. You have a whole drum kit in a box, basically.
THE HONEYBUCKET SONG
Everybody loves their honeybucket seat
They are blue and smell so sweet
Pretend its a rocket heading for the moon
Then wash your hands and come back soon
My Honeybucket
My Big Blue Honeybucket
Everybody loves their honeybucket seat
They are blue and smell so sweet
Pretend its a phonebooth and make a call
But when you turn around try not to fall
In My Honeybucket
My Big Blue Honeybucket
My flushing Honeybucket
I love you
Big Blue Honeybucket, yeah

The Honeybucket is the Cadillac of port-a-poties that they have on the West Coast. The people who clean the Honeybuckets are called ‘Honeydippers’. How funny is that? They are the cleanest, roomiest, best-smelling, coolest port-a-pot you’ll ever have the pleasure of visiting. Just me and my ovation tenor uke on this one. I call him Ukey.
OLD OLD SONG
When sailors sing it this is
This is an old, old song
When angels sing it this is
This is an old, old song
When cowboys sing it this is
This is an old, old song
When mommas sing it this is
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song
This is a song of redemption
This is a song of the free
This is a song for the children
This song is living in me
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song
When wisemen sing it this is
This is an old, old song
When beggers sing it this is
This is an old, old song
When papas sing it this is
This is an old, old song
When babies sing it this is
This is an old, old song
Long before mountains and oceans
Long before land and the sea
Long before any Creation
This song was living in me
I love you , I love you
I love you (this is an old song)
I love you (this is an old song)
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song
This is an old, old song

Phredd – baritone ukulele, didgeridoo, keyboards, drums, loops, drum machines, percussion, vocals, claves
This song came to me in my sleep at about 3am 10/20/06 after 3 very long Friend Raising days on the radio, and an extremely frustrating night of teen anger at home. When some people say they write songs in their sleep, they mean they are so good, they can write songs in their sleep. I mean I actually write them while I’m asleep. I really think God gave me this song because he knew I needed it.
God Loves You. That is a profound thought, and the oldest song ever written.
I played my Kahala Baritone Ukulele that I got from MusicguyMike on ebay. If you ever need a great affordable uke, Mike is the guy. The bass is a didgeridoo, played into a sampler and replayed so I could modulate (since the didge is a drone.)
JESUS LOVES ME
Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Little ones to him belong
They are weak but He is strong
Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Jesus loves me this I know
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Jesus loves me this I know
Jesus loves me this I know
For the Bible tells me so
Jesus loves me this I know
Jesus loves me this I know, O yeah
Jesus loves me this I know

Phredd – ukulele, vocals, percussion
I recorded this with my martin backpacker ukulele and my voice. I wanted it to sound really old, like it had been on a ’78 played on a scratchy old phonograph. It is the perfect followup to “Old, Old Song. “
